The cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in Jiangsu Province, China, has exceeded 100 million kilowatts

Reporters learned from State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company that as of August 18, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in Jiangsu had surpassed 100 million kilowatts, reaching 100.08 million kilowatts. This surpassed coal-fired power, gas turbines, and wind power, making it the largest power source in Jiangsu, accounting for over 38% of the province's total installed power generation capacity. Jiangsu has also become the first province in China where the installed capacity of photovoltaic power has exceeded 100 million kilowatts.

Since the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, driven by the "dual carbon" goals, Jiangsu's photovoltaic (PV) installed capacity has increased by over 70 million kilowatts in five years, representing a multiple increase compared to the initial stage. Distributed PV has been the main force behind Jiangsu's PV installed capacity surpassing 100 million kilowatts. The province's distributed PV installed capacity has reached 69.29 million kilowatts, accounting for nearly 70% of the total, ranking first in the country.

"Jiangsu is a major economic and electricity-consuming province, and has embarked on a differentiated path of 'mainly relying on onshore distributed systems with centralized systems as a supplement, and developing offshore projects with distinctive features'. Relying on resources such as industrial park factories, public buildings, and rural residential rooftops, a unique distributed photovoltaic development pattern has been formed," said Gao Zhengping, a second-level staff member of the Development Department of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Company. This distributed-based photovoltaic development model is of significant reference value to similar regions.

Recently, the "Implementation Plan for Distributed Photovoltaic Development in Jiangsu Province (2026-2030)" was issued, specifying that by 2030, the cumulative installed capacity of distributed photovoltaics in the province will reach 120 million kilowatts, and by 2035, it will reach 160 million kilowatts. It proposes to simultaneously implement "whole-village contiguous development" and "concentrated construction in entire parks", with centralized convergence as the main approach and decentralized access as a supplement, prioritizing promotion in areas such as parks, whole-village household use, public buildings, and transportation.

Currently, pilot projects for whole-village development have been launched in 48 villages across 12 cities and prefectures, including Lianyungang and Xuzhou. A total of 731 distributed photovoltaic (PV) users have been developed, with a total installed capacity of 22,000 kW. Distributed PV is transitioning from being "spontaneous and disorderly" to being "regulated and orderly".

To ensure the large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power can be connected, transmitted, and used stably, State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd. has taken multiple measures to enhance the grid-connected consumption capacity - smoothing the main grid, promoting the construction of coastal corridors, strengthening the Nantong-Suzhou DC project, etc.; upgrading the distribution grid, continuously expanding the capacity for distributed PV access; optimizing grid-connected services, providing full-process online handling for household and commercial/industrial distributed PV, and achieving "zero visits, zero approvals, and zero investment" for low-voltage grid connection.
